Marc Jacobs recently added a few new products to its beauty line, two of which I have fallen in love with. I had read about them online and looked them up on Sephora’s website, but it wasn’t until I was in the store and one of the makeup artists caught me playing with the new Marvelous Mousse Transformative Foundation that I decided to actually buy them. The woman stopped me and said, “we are SO in love with that foundation – we seriously use it on almost everyone, you must try it!”
So I did. (I’m a really hard sell…naht.)Â I’m always on the hunt for the latest-and-greatest cover up, so I picked up the Full Cover Concealer. Before I dive into in-depth review, I’ll just say it now: I love them both!
Mousse Foundation – $55, available at Sephora and other large retailers
Texture: The term “mousse” is a bit misleading here. When I hear a product is a mousse, I associate it with a whipped, fluffy texture; this product is more like an incredibly smooth cream. When you touch it, it’s ridiculously soft (but still retains its shape, I repeat: it’s not a mousse!) and feels very smooth and creamy on the skin. It feels like butter, Paula Deen would be pleased.
Coverage: Depending on your application method, this foundation is light to full coverage. Hence why I love it! If you apply it sparingly with a sponge applicator or a fluffy foundation brush, one coat will leave you with a light layer of perfection. Add some more in spots that need extra coverage, or apply more layers and you’ll end up with a full coverage foundation. (Side note: after a week of daily wear, and a few instances of some thick ass layering, I have no extra breakouts – woo!)
Finish: No matter how many layers I’ve built up with this product, it never looks cakey or like BoBo the clown came for a visit; it always looks like a radiant second skin. I’m not much of a matte finish girl myself, so if you’re like me, you’ll probably enjoy the ever-so-slightly dewy finish.
Lasting power: On me, this foundation lasts about 6 hours without touch-ups. I will say that I usually set it with a powder, and if I’m going out at night I’ll spritz some setting or finishing spray on top.
Because there are so many other skin types out there, I decided to look at reviews on Makeupalley and Sephora to come to some broader conclusions. In general, people love both of these products. For those that found cons, lasting power was usually one of them; although it stayed well on my skin (I’m fairly dry), a couple of reviewers with oilier skin said they loved the first look but it wore off on them quickly. Perhaps trying it out with a powder and setting spray would’ve helped, but some people [understandably] want such an expensive product to last on their skin all by itself. Overall, it has amazing feedback, and I fully agree…this foundation is a new staple in my routine!
Full Cover Concealer – $32
Texture: Super creamy, thick concealer. Sort of like Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer + Benefit’s Erase Paste + MAC Studio Finish Concealer, but a little bit thicker, creamier, and tacky (it sticks to your skin versus just sliding around.) Sort of like a greasepaint, if you can picture the texture. If you have dry skin, this would be great for you.
Coverage: Opaque and full-coverage. I don’t have super troublesome skin, just some red marks from old breakouts and dark circles, and this concealer tackles them all with one light application.
Finish: Similar to the Bobbi Brown and Erase Paste concealers, this won’t feel dry or cakey, but it may crease in areas of fine lines.
Lasting power: This concealer stayed on my skin for about 6 hours, as long as I set it with a powder. It is thick and creamy, so I imagine it lasting longer on dryer skin types, or at least not on the t-zone for someone with really oily skin.
