I absolutely love BB creams. Well, I love the good ones. I’ve found that bad BB creams are REALLY bad…they’re heavy, thick, and greasy. Good ones, however, are amazing because they often are great multi-taskers, helping to treat, prime, and moisturize the skin while adding enough coverage to replace your tinted moisturizer or foundation. Your skin will look like real skin, just better. If you’re a makeup artist, BB creams are excellent for male grooming, with a light dusting of powder on top to set.

Here are my three favorites and a brief review of each.

  1. Dior Diorskin Nude BB Cream – This product has a great consistency. It’s thick like a moisturizer but easy to spread on and doesn’t feel heavy. The best part is you feel like it really fully dries to your skin, unlike many other bb creams out there which feel tacky for hours and end up creasing, moving around, and transferring onto clothes. It offers great coverage (medium to buildable) without looking fake. There aren’t a ton of shades, but I really love this line because the lightest shade is REALLY light with a neutral undertone — perfect for my porcelain skin!
  2. L.A. Girl Pro BB Cream – This is a great bb cream for those who are working within a stricter budget or who want to try one out without breaking the bank. This is thick and a little bit greasier than the Dior one, but still not greasy and it dries well. I would recommend setting this one with a powder through. It wears well, and it doesn’t break out my skin. Coverage is a light-to-medium but buildable. Again, the shade range is good – the lightest shade is light enough for porcelain skin, and the darkest shade is dark enough for very deep skin tones.
  3. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream – This was the first BB cream I ever liked and it made me fall in love with them. Pretty much for all the same reasons as above, so I won’t bore you. My only complaint here is that the shades run a bit dark and yellow for me.

Pro tip: Add in a few drops of the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops to adjust the coverage and shade of your BB cream. Now you have a solution for lighter coverage up to full coverage, and a shade range that will last you summer through winter.
